About Third Grade

Third Grade at Norton Creek is exciting and challenging! Highlights of our year include:

  • Science and Social Studies
  • Rocks and Minerals
  • 2 new PLTW units Winter Unit: FORCES and FLIGHT
  • Spring Unit: Simple Machines
  • Researching countries around the world
  • Learning about Immigration
  • Studying Native American cultures

We also have the opportunity to learn Eureka Math from Mrs. Gilroy every morning and attend Reading Workshop in Mrs. Fowler’s classroom in the morning too. Each Third Grade teacher specializes either in MAth or Literacy and we have the opportunity to learn from both teachers every day. We are Readers, Writers and Mathematicians working hard and doing our best.

In third grade we enjoy Writing Workshop. Each day we start with a mini lesson and then we have time to write in our writer’s notebooks. Our writer’s practice writing Narrative writing, Informational writing, and Persuasive. Pieces. We also write letters, poetry, practice our cursive, and write for many other purposes throughout our days.

Most importantly, we have fun and prepare ourselves for the Intermediate world of Norton Creek. We come into Third Grade from the Primary World of Second Grade. We work really hard on becoming independent, responsible, and organized students.
